Nineteen of the Russian's 21 championships have been achieved on hardcourt

A revitalized the Russian player secured his initial title for 882 days with success over Corentin Moutet in the competition championship match.

The Russian, a former top-ranked player, has had a difficult season, managing just a single victory at the big events and suffering a meltdown at the US Open.

Medvedev's varied form on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serve in especial - caused him dropping out of the top ten and ultimately splitting with long-term trainer Gilles Cervara.

Now training with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has consistently advanced in the last few weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This marks his first title since the Italian tournament and first on a hard surface from that period of the previous year.

Success also indicates Medvedev has secured twenty-one victories at twenty-one different events.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a competition with my children at once, so to secure a trophy is really nice," commented world number 14 Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my second daughter my daughter, because the first title I won when my child my daughter was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had been defeated in his past six championship matches, including in Halle in the past months.

Medvedev's counter-punching approach and recurring outbursts on court had prompted some to doubt if his ability to play at the top level was finished.

However the 29-year-old has made changes in the last few weeks, making an effort to advance forward and perform positively, backed up by an enhanced serve.

He came back from a break down in the first set against the tricky opponent, securing four of the final five points to take the lead.

Both players exchanged breaks in the middle set before Moutet, attempting for his first ATP Tour victory, took control to force a decider.

The opponent defended 4 early break points in a competitive deciding set before the Russian won the break to fifteen to close out the victory.

Fittingly, the winner clinched victory with a point at the net area, with Moutet incapable to control a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
